BlueBay Asset Management, a global fixed income manager, has appointed Mark Bathgate as Portfolio Manager to its Investment Grade team.

Reporting to Mark Dowding, Partner and Co-Head of Investment Grade, Mark’s experience in macro-risk-taking around interest rates and government policy will be utilised across all strategies in the team, providing investment input at a macro level.

BlueBay’s Investment Grade team invests across sovereign and corporate debt in long only and hedge fund strategies and manages in excess of US$24 billion.

Talking about the investment landscapeand Mark Bathgate’s appointment, Mark Dowding said, “In the current market environment, investment fundamentals have given way to macro impacts for the large part in investment grade. This dynamic, coupled with ultra low yields, means investment professionals need to remain ahead of news flow and macro events in order to generate alpha in their strategies. Mark brings with him the insight and knowledge into geopolitical and macro economic investing that can potentially have a material impact on portfolios in this environment.”

Prior to joining BlueBay, Mark was co-founder of ABD Investment Management, a macro hedge fund, where he was Head of Research and Business Development. Previously, he held senior research roles at UBS O’Connor, Goldman Sachs and JB Were and was a Portfolio Manager at Morgan Grenfell Asset Management.  Mark holds a LLB (Hons) in Law from the University of Edinburgh.
